Deep Roots History

Deep Roots Market has grown organically out of the Greater Greensboro community since its founding in 1976. The co-op, dedicated to service, is intertwined with the goals of its owners, supporters, and all customers.

Deep Roots Market has flourished as a trusted source for healthy foods and products, and in turn, the community has nurtured the growth of Guilford County's only food cooperative.

Deep Roots Market began as a small vegetarian buying club in a Guilford College dormitory in the 1960’s. By 1976, ownership in the club had grown large enough to support a storefront business, and we incorporated to become Deep Roots Market.

In 1990, we moved to 3728 Spring Garden Street, serving the nutrition and wellness needs of Greensboro and surrounding communities.

In March of 2013, we moved to our current location at 600 North Eugene Street.
